1. Introduce yourself shortly. Who are you? Where are you from ?

I'm Erick Monterrosa. I'm Salvadorian but grew up in Nicaragua. I'm now based in Madrid where I work as a photographer.

2. How did you fall in love in photography ?

I was a very sensitive child. I used to draw before discovering photography. Back in the early 2000's, there was this show hosted by Tyra Banks. America's Next Top Model sort of opened the world of fashion to mainstream media, and this shaped my taste.

3. How would you describe your photography style ?

The core elements of my photography are Art, Fashion and Sex. My top favourite shoots tend to combine the three of them in one.

4. Do you work full-time as a photographer or do you have a regular job ?

I'm a full time photographer. two months ago, I quitted my regular photography job at a studio in Madrid. I'm independent now.

5. What do you think is the most difficult thing about being a photographer?

Discovering your style and your voice. Most photographers I know get old and never get there.

6. What is the best advice you have received since you are in the business?

Make a living photographing what you love. If it doesn't move your heart, then don't photograph it.

7. How has photography influenced you as a person ?

For most part of my life, I was a photographer first, and a human being after. It shaped my personality, and gave me a place in the world. It's still an integral part of who I am nowadays, but it no longer defines who I am as a person.

8. How much has the pandemic influenced or changed you and your creativity ?

It was a fun time for me tbh, because I got to experiment with online photoshoots through Skype. I also had way too much time ,to talk to fellow artists to the extent I developed a sense of community. That is lost by now though as everyone got busy.

9. Did you ever think about quitting ?

Not really, it's pretty much the one thing I know I'm good at.

10. What is your biggest dream career-wise?

Having my own studio, releasing several books, and make a living traveling the world.

11. What was the most unusual location where you did a shooting?

It's either a sex club or a Christian church.

12. What’s something that will always be in fashion, no matter how much time passes?

Denim, for sure!

13. Do you have any hidden talents ?

I'm a quite good dancer. Latin music is like drugs to my ears.

14. What are you interested in that most people aren’t?

Talking about feelings and death.

15. What did you think was silly until you tried it?

Taking selfies.

16. What weird food combinations do you really enjoy?

Most people I know in Europe hate pizza and pineapples together... but yeah Hawaiian pizza is my go to

17. What mythical creature do you wish actually existed?

Mew? Don't judge, I'm a product of the 90's and 2000's, so I would love to live in a world where Pokemon were real.

18. If magic was real, what spell would you try to learn first?

I would find a spell that makes people agree with anything I say 😅 I'm a taurus after all.

19. If you could have an all-expenses paid trip to see any famous world monument, which monument would you choose?

Wat Rong Khun in Thailand. But can the all paid expenses include a model to photograph at such location? Thank you 😊

20. What’s one thing that totally relaxes you, when you are stressed?

It's either retouching or organizing my room.

21. What’s your biggest pet peeve?

When I'm retouching, it's either all or nothing. Meaning, I either finish retouching the whole shoot or I don't retouch anything at all. I hate hate hate hate hate lack of consistency in the final result.

22. What’s the most recent show you’ve binge watched?

The last season of Elite on Netflix. I binge watch shows while retouching.

23. What odd smell do you really enjoy?

I can't reveal that, it would socially unacceptable lol

24. An epic feast is held in your honor, what’s on the table?

Coke zero and pizza... but make it Hawaiian!
