Introduce yourself shortly.

My name is Zoen Lam, and I am a Fashion- and Fine art photographer born, raised and based in Berlin.

Tell us how you became a professional photographer.

I fell in love with the language of visual storytelling and became passionate about photography,
so I worked hard to learn as much as possible and practice as much as possible.
Believe in yourself, even if its a long and winding road. Don't give up!

What inspires you ?

The boys I loved before! LOL

Whose work has influenced you the most ?

There are so many amazing artists out there. Especially on Instagram, I get influenced and inspired day by day.
But when it really comes to portrait photography, I always think of Mark Abrahams.
He is one of my personal iconic portrait photographers.

Describe your photographic style.

My work is a photographic study on the male figure. I am about to present
the masculine and the sensual facets of men, which illustrate simple and intimate moments.

Pet Peeves

Oh! I have quite a few! Lol

- When groups of people take up the entire side of the street. MOVE.

- People who walk slowly or stop suddenly in the middle of the sidewalk.

- People who don't know how to get through airport security efficiently.
It's been 15 years. You know you only can have a small amount of liquids
inside a zip bag and get your laptop out of your bag.

- When you open the door for someone and not only do they not thank you,
they also glide straight past you as if people should open doors for them.

- People who walk into the subway and stand right in front of the door

What is a big goal for you - career wise?

Tbh I don't have a big goal. I don't like to plan ahead. Cause I know, I will get very disappointed if I am not reaching it LOL.
So I learned to achieve goals step by step is much more fulfilling.

At the beginning of my career, the only goal that I had was that my work appears in Magazines, I made it.
I had a small list of people I wanted to work with. I did it. After that, I wanted to publish my very own photo book. Now it is in the making.
Next step? I would love to have an exhibition about my work.

What do you like the most about being a photographer ?

Expressing your feelings without saying a single word. I think it is a beautiful way to speak to others,
especially when it allows so much freedom to be interpreted.

3 People you're dying to work with

Ah… that's a really tough question. There are so many male models I would die to work with.
But here are the 3 that came first in my mind
Edison Fan, I got the chance to work with him already, but still would love to work with him again ,Pietro Boselli, Christian Hogue

Edison and Pietro were definitely the two that I wanted to work with when I just started photography.

What is the most challenging part of being a photographer ?

Explaining to people that photography is NOT for free!

How important is social media for your career?

Without social media, I would have never been where I am now!!!
THANK YOU, SOCIAL MEDIA!

How has photography influenced you as a person?

Photography has influenced me in a way to see a person more closely and more in-depth and not to judge a book by its cover so quickly.

How did you develop your style?

I have practiced as much as possible. Your very own style will come naturally.
Just stay true to your heart by expressing what you are feeling.

What kind of gear do you use and what's your favorite lens ?

Canon 5D Mark IV, Canon 85mm f/1.4

What music do you listen to when you're editing?

Pop music! I looove to sing along during editing. Mostly I'll stay by one Artist and listen to the whole Album during an editing session.

What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

That it is a rocky road. It would be good to have a thick skin in this field. As artists, our work is a reflection of ourselves.
You will receive critique, criticism, or rejection all the time. It's painful and feels like a failure. One thing I have learned in my career
is that rejection is not a failure. The way to hurt your career the most is to let rejection hold you back from sharing your work
or prevent you from creating with all your heart and soul.

You accidentally ate some radioactive vegetables. They were good, and what's even cooler is that they endow you with the Super-Power of your choice! What's it gonna be?

To teleport. No doubt about it, hahaha. I am mostly traveling just because of photography. Oh my g… That would be so cool.
I would be saving so much time AND money LOL … Nah… I think it would be quite amazing to be wherever you like to be.
Just imagine you have a big fight with your partner…if its too much for you, you just teleport yourself to the Maldives,
laying on the beach, sipping on a cocktail and enjoying the sun LOL ;)
